The School
Laasya is a Sanskrit-origin word that refers to a graceful and feminine dance form. It is believed to have been invented and performed by Goddess Parvati, contrasting with the vigorous Tandava dance of Lord Shiva. The name Laasya is associated with elegance, charm, and expressive movements. It symbolizes beauty and fluidity in classical Indian dance traditions, hence the school name.
With a vision to share the richness of Indian culture embodied in the classical dance form of Bharatanatyam, Mridul created “Laasya” – an Academy of Indian Classical Dance in Calgary, AB. Laasya became a beacon of cultural preservation and promotion, nurturing both local talents and enthusiasts.
Through Laasya, Mridul has kindled the flames of passion in her students’ hearts. She has witnessed them blossom into skilled dancers, instilled with dedication and perseverance. Laasya is proud of the remarkable achievements of its students (current and alumni) for the accolades, and to be known as a top-notch Bharatanatyam academy in Calgary that stands as a beacon of excellence in dance education. Her mission extends beyond the classroom, as Laasya seeks to increase community awareness of this exquisite dance form through captivating recitals and performances.
Laasya has trained over 100+ students over the past 17 years & currently offers classes to adults and children 6+ on Sundays at the Laasya Bharatanatyam Dance Studio in Panorama Hills NW, Calgary, AB.
