1. Regular classes are once a week, 3pm-4pm on Sundays. All classes are held at Laasya Studio: 126 Panamount Villas NW, Calgary, AB T3K 0A3. We will start with a small pooja (~30mins) to Lord Nataraja (God of dance), on Vijayadashami Thursday Oct 2nd at 5:30pm followed by a class the very next day Friday Oct 3 at 5:30pm for the Dwithiya paata (2nd lesson) - a customary tradition done not to break the flow of learning. You can bring fruits and flowers for Lord Nataraja, but its not mandatory. We will seek blessings from Lord Nataraja for a fruitful dance journey and I will accept your daughter as my student. 2. Students have to be dressed in comfortable Indian clothes: salwaar kameez (knee length), pyjama/tights (ankle length), dupatta, bindi & earrings (preferably jumkas). The length of the top has to be around the knee, ideally with a slit on the sides. The students should bring a water bottle to class to keep hydrated. 3. Class management/communication will be done via WhatsApp. If your child is unable to attend classes for any reason, please notify the WhatsApp group in advance. 4. When new lessons are taught, students need to practice everyday for 10-15 mins. Only when they perfect it, will another new lesson be taught. These are expectations of Laasya, please be prepared to commit. 5. During summer months (Jul & Aug), classes are held on week days (Tue, Wed & Thu), during the rest of the year classes are held on Sundays. There are NO classes during statutory holidays/long weekends. If for other reasons a class cannot be held, a makeup classes will be scheduled. Below is a list of corresponding Stat Holidays for 2025 1. Sun Oct 12 Thanksgiving 2. Sun Nov 9 Remembrance 3. Sun Dec 21 Christmas 4. Sun Dec 28 New Year 6. For 2025, fees are $100/month for beginners batch. Classes are once a week on Sundays. Fees needs to be paid on the FIRST class of the month. There will be $5/DAY late fee if paid after the 1st class of the month. Payment can be made by cash (preferred and appreciated) or etransfer: laasyacalgary@gmail.com. Fees are NOT prorated. If for any reason a student is unable to attend classes for an extended period of time (going to India, injury, etc), fees are expected to be paid in full every month, once they return they will be brought upto speed, if not they will loose their spot in their batch. 7. When the teacher sees potential in a student, the student will be offered a spot in the next batch however since the next batch is ahead, the student will need a min of 2 extra classes/week to catch up. Beginner level extra classes are $25/hr 8. All senior students (mandatory) & most intermediate students are expected to teach younger kids as part of their learning curriculum. Teaching deepens their learning & helps them become better dancers. 9. There will be a few dance performances (some are free, some are ticketed) by Laasya (arangetram /rangapravesha) or by reputed artists that visit Calgary every year, that will be "mandatory" for the students to attend. Watching performances is an important part of learning. Every time Laasya performs, details of the performance will be shared in advance. It is very beneficial for the students to watch their seniors perform as they aspire to become like them one day. 10. As the students learn and advance, there will be performance opportunities (once they get to the dance level). However, please understand learning any classical art form takes time, dedication & perseverance. When the time is right & the student is ready, opportunities will be provided to perform. 11.
